Financial crisis

Recently I have been working on quite a lot of cartoons on the financial crisis, for a few of my regular clients and also some to sell via my website (the cartoon above is one of them). It's a goldmine for humour and great fodder for cartoonists which is going to continue for some time to come.

The irony is over the last couple of years traditional cartoon markets have been squeezed. Many publications have either cut down on or stopped using cartoons due to cost cutting. Which is quite strange, as at a time like this people could do with something to make them smile!

New Post!

After over a year without posting I have finally kicked my butt back into making one! This time I am determined to make regular posts that will hopefully be vaguely interesting to someone.

Hopefully more so than this one!

Anyway, above is a cartoon that was recently used (along with another one) at a Postnatal group meeting for first time mothers. This was the first time my work has been used for this type of thing, and just goes to show that cartoons are always useful to add a touch of humour to any subject. Plug...Plug...

Keith Richards Caricature

Here is my latest caricature, Keith richards, it was published last week along side an article on The Rolling Stones.

The rough sketch was drawn in pencil, scanned in and sent for approval to the magazine. Then I completed the cartoon with the pen work and colouring in Corel Painter.

Commissioned cartoons

Often when I am commissioned to draw a cartoon, people ask me what they can expect to see at the rough stage. So below is a recent cartoon commission at the rough draft stage and the final artwork.

Obviously with some jobs alterations are needed and a revised rough is required, however with this job my client was completely happy with the rough and didn't require any amendments, so then it was on to producing the final cartoon.

Golf Illustration

Above is the latest illustration from the golf book I am working through illustrating at the moment. There are 101 in total, but I can't give away any more information at the moment, as the book is yet to be published.

I will keep you posted.

Caricatures as gifts

I have been working on the rough draft of a caricature commission today (attached below).

The final drawing in this case will be drawn A3 on board with a dip pen and coloured with watercolour paints. For caricatures I normally work this way, or occasionally colour with marker pens.

I enjoy working on caricature commissions as all my published work these days is drawn and coloured digitally, so it is nice to get back to basics. Also drawing caricatures as gifts always gives me a buzz knowing that the final artwork will be framed and hung on someones wall.

Menopause Cartoons

A few years ago I drew a regular monthly cartoon for a website on the menopause. Now until that time I had never drawn any menopause cartoons, anyway I never realised just how popular they would be.

I recieved quite a few emails from people saying how much they liked them, so I added more to my website. Now with the exception of my golf cartoons they are the most requested cartoons that I have with people wanting to reuse them.

Below is the most popular one that is still very much in demand for to this day.
