Keith Richards Caricature

Here is my latest caricature, Keith richards, it was published last week along side an article on The Rolling Stones.

The rough sketch was drawn in pencil, scanned in and sent for approval to the magazine. Then I completed the cartoon with the pen work and colouring in Corel Painter.

Commissioned cartoons

Often when I am commissioned to draw a cartoon, people ask me what they can expect to see at the rough stage. So below is a recent cartoon commission at the rough draft stage and the final artwork.

Obviously with some jobs alterations are needed and a revised rough is required, however with this job my client was completely happy with the rough and didn't require any amendments, so then it was on to producing the final cartoon.

Golf Illustration

Above is the latest illustration from the golf book I am working through illustrating at the moment. There are 101 in total, but I can't give away any more information at the moment, as the book is yet to be published.

I will keep you posted.

Caricatures as gifts

I have been working on the rough draft of a caricature commission today (attached below).

The final drawing in this case will be drawn A3 on board with a dip pen and coloured with watercolour paints. For caricatures I normally work this way, or occasionally colour with marker pens.

I enjoy working on caricature commissions as all my published work these days is drawn and coloured digitally, so it is nice to get back to basics. Also drawing caricatures as gifts always gives me a buzz knowing that the final artwork will be framed and hung on someones wall.

Menopause Cartoons

A few years ago I drew a regular monthly cartoon for a website on the menopause. Now until that time I had never drawn any menopause cartoons, anyway I never realised just how popular they would be.

I recieved quite a few emails from people saying how much they liked them, so I added more to my website. Now with the exception of my golf cartoons they are the most requested cartoons that I have with people wanting to reuse them.

Below is the most popular one that is still very much in demand for to this day.

New Comic Strip

A lot of the cartoons I draw are commissioned for various projects, sometimes with a tight brief other times a loose one. But I do produce several regular features the longest running of these is a comic strip "The Chronicles of Graham, a salaried Tax Partner".

I have been drawing it monthly since late 2004. The main character Graham is the hapless hero of the Tax world. Suffering a mid life crisis. It is great fun to work on and I am never short of ideas when the time comes to do another one.

I thought I would share the latest one, and will put the new one up each month, and occasionally show some of the older ones.

I hope you like it.

Cat cartoons

This is a recently published cartoon. I don't know why, I have always enjoyed drawing cat cartoons.

This idea came to me while I was walking past a house and saw a cat sitting by a cat flap, as though waiting patiently for a friend to come out. Although in hindsight he could have forgotten his key and was thinking "Damn!"

First Post!

Day1: This should be my day off, but I have been adding the finishing touches to the back cover of a golf book I have been illustrating (Above).

I will give more details on the book in a future post, because as this is my day off I can't really be bothered to type more! (stupid day to start a blog then really, but never mind!)

Can you guess who the famous faces are? Although no prizes if you do, just a virtual pat on the back
